My passion for vibrant color and texture that is apparent in my paintings, has surfaced in my new line of hand-painted silk scarves. Each scarf is unique. First I stretch a white, hand rolled, silk scarf on a frame; then using a paintbrush and silk dye, I paint the silk. I use salt, sugar, water, alcohol, and various silk dye products to create interesting patterns. The difficult part of my process is to leave it alone after applying these elements. It needs time to work. Usually, the unpredictable result is exciting and dramatic. I love the spontaneity and experimental aspect of this medium. Whether painting on wood, paper, canvas, or silk; my goal is to “let go” and let intuition be my guide.
